ATTENTION ALL JOGGERS!
The Rape Crisis Center has received calls from three different women who have been victims of rape or attempted rape while jogging at Shaker Lakes. One of the rapists has been arrested by the police, but others have not yet been apprehended. It appears that there are several men operating in that area and preying on women runners. We do not suggest that anyone stop running or even that they stop running at Shaker Lakes, but it can be helpful to know what is going on and to be alert to the potential dangers. Possibly try to run while it is still light outside or with a friend. Staying close to the street makes it more difficult for someone to hide behind a tree or to assault you unnoticed. If someone does try to assault you, gather all the strength you have by getting angry. You will find that you are much stronger than you ever thought you were. So keep running and try to stay alert and aware of who is around you and what they are doing. And if you see someone else who seems to be in trouble, run for help!
